COVID TREATMENT DRUG INTERACTIONS CHECKERS

University of Liverpool Drug Interactions Chart

The main medication currently (March 2023) recommended to treat COVID is Paxlovid (Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir – 5 days), but not everyone can take it without altering the medications they normally take.

The University of Liverpool has a free, user friendly drug interactions chart. You can select COVID medications such as Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir (Paxlovid) and upload your current medication list. The website will ceck to see if there are any negative interactions between your medications and COVID medications. It will aslo draw up a detailed PDF that lists not only the issues, but also suggests possible solutions and alternate medications. This is a great tool for assisting you and your doctor to come up with a “go plan” in case you get COVID. When you plan ahead and know what to do as soon as you catch COVID, you are more likely to have a better outcome. Early treatment makes a big difference.

They also have mobile apps!

Drugs.com Drug Interaction Checker

If you are not a candidate for Paxlovid or other common COVID medications, your doctor may suggest other medications for COVID that are not on the University of Liverpool’s COVID 19 drug interactions site. In that case, you can use the checker on Drugs.com to make sure the new medication does not negatively react with your current medications. In general, this is a good site to make sure any medications being taken by you or someone you care for don’t have interactions with each other. If you do see a dangerous interaction, you can print out the warnings from here and then discuss the risks vs. benefits with your prescribing doctor. You can store medication lists for multiple people on this website too.
