Private Lesson Details

Private lessons are booked by appointment. Your lessons will focus on your specific dance needs. Whether you are preparing for your “First Dance”, going for the gold, or want to impress at the clubs, private lessons are the most effective way to improve your dancing.

Time and location will depend on your availability and location as well as studio and instructor availability. Private lessons may be purchased on a lesson-per-lesson basis or in pre-paid packages of five or ten. (I recommend a package of ten lessons for couples who are preparing for their first dance.)

Private lessons are for 1-2 people. There is no price difference if the lesson is for an individual or two people. Semi-private lessons are also available (3 or more people). Get a group of friends together and share the fun!

What should I wear to my lesson?

You should wear a good mask (KF94, KN95, N95, or higher required), good shoes, and whatever you can easily move in that makes you feel comfortable. At some of the dance studios Mary teaches at, people do tend to dress up a bit for their lessons (think skirts, dresses, slacks, and button up shirts).

Wearing proper dance shoes will greatly inhance your dancing. You can find out all you need to know about shoes (including vegan dance shoe options) for your dance style in the Dancer’s Guide. If you are just getting started and are not ready to purchase dance shoes just yet, shoes with leather or smooth soles will make it easier to dance. Stay away from tennis shoes, rubber soles, soles with tread, platform, and flip flop or slip on style shoes. Ladies can wear heels, but they should be be no higher than 3″ and the ankle strap must keep the shoe attached to your foot as you spin. Men will do well in comfortable dress shoes with leather or smooth soles.

Currently, well fitting KF94, KN 95, N95, or higher rated masks are required for in person private lessons. (If you need any special accommodations regarding masks, please reach out to Mary about your situation and we’ll find a solution.)

Online private lessons and/or a hybrid of in person and online private lessons as well as outdoor lessons are also available.
