Dance Sneakers
Dance sneakers are a great option for dancing on dirty and/or less than ideal surfaces. You can walk or dance on the street, grass, dirt, and cement without doing major damage to these sturdy shoes or your joints. It is common for dance teams, troops, and companies to combine partner dancing and solo dancing within the same routine. It is dangerous for people to do jazz jumps and hip hop in 3” Latin heels so many groups use dance sneakers for these types of routines. Partner dancers also wear dance sneakers when they want more of a street dance aesthetic or when attending outdoor dance events.

Fuego - Great for outdoor events!
One brand I really like for dancing outdoors on cement is Fuego. My fuego low tops spin on cement better than any other dance sneakers I've worn. They are ideal for outdoor socials like LACMA's Latin Jazz Summer Series, 3rd Street Promenade, the Autry, the Farmer's Market at the Grove, etc. (Check out the links to my Meet-up events if you want to join us)) . Fuego's don't come in wide yet. The manufacturer suggests going up a 1/2 size if you have a wide foot.

Many dance sneakers generally have a gap between the heel and ball of the shoe (called a split-sole) to allow dancers to easily flex their arch. Because of this gap, it is easy to sprain your foot while spinning. It is especially important that these shoes fit snuggly. Split-soles are fine for dancing in controlled environments and smooth surfaces, but dancers tend to wear their dance sneakers for non-dance activities and on rough cement as well. Friction can cause the toes to move slower than the foot causing a sprain in the middle of the foot. Rough surfaces, a mis-step when not focusing on movement, or a random unexpected shove that would not be a big deal in a regular sole could cause a sprain that sidelines you for months in a split-sole. If wearing split-soles use extra caution.
